Falcons win big, 17-7

The CW Davis Falcons are on fire! They won today’s game by a 10 run margin, putting up spectacular offense and defense. The final score was 17-7.

If I were publishing video, the highlight reel would be huge. Brad Brown was the starting pitcher and pitched 5 strong innings. Cameron Warner and Brandon Benevento both pitched excellent in relief to close out the game. Stephen Skeggs went 2 for 4 on the day with 5 plate appearances total. He popped up to third base in his first at bat and lined out to the short stop in his second at bat. In his third at bat he hit a double over the left fielders head. In his fourth at bat he reached on an error by the Centerfielder who simply missed a perfectly catchable fly ball. In his fifth and final at bat of the day, Stephen hit a single just out of reach of the short stop.

The highlight of the day was the performance by Austin Jones at the plate. Austin went 3 for 5 today and hit a triple and two home runs. The second home run was a grand slam. Way to go Jonesy!!

All in all, it was a great day at the ballpark. We play again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Alberta Banks Park.

Davis Falcons improve record to 4-1

The C.W. Davis Falcons were back at the top of their game again tonight. They shut out the West Hall Spartans with a score of 5-0. It was a pitcher’s duel for the first few innings but the Falcons bats finally woke up.

Brandon Benevento started and pitched 4 strong innings with 5 strikeouts. Drew Miles entered the game in relief in the 5th inning and closed the door on the Spartans. Miles threw a total of 9 strikeouts in his 3 innings of work. Stephen Skeggs went 2 for 2 at the plate and brought his season batting average up from .333 to .454 for the season. He also walked and had a total of 3 plate appearances and scored 2 runs.

Our next game is on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Alberta Banks Park in Flowery Branch. We also play on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Alberta Banks Park. Come on out if your not too busy.

Falcons win again in nail-biter of a game

Well, last nights match-up between the C.W. Davis Falcons and the Chestatee War Eagles was quite intense. Stephen started the game pitching and threw 2 full innings. He faced 6 batters in the 1st inning and gave up no runs. He had 1 assist in making an out at Home Plate. The second inning wasn’t so pretty. He faced 11 batters and gave up 6 runs. Defensively, we just weren’t as sharp as we needed to be in the field. In light of that, I’m very proud of how Stephen held up under the pressure of having the bases loaded and then getting rocked. His composure was excellent.

Offensively, he went 1 for 3 at the plate, maintaining his .333 batting average. Best of all, thanks to the quality call by his Coach, Geoff Chaffin, he was able to draw the infield in with two fake bunts during the bottom of the last inning and then picked out the perfect pitch to put over the 1st baseman’s head into Right Field to bring in the game winning run from 3rd base. As you might guess, I couldn’t have been more proud of his performance last night. We ended up winning 11-10 which takes our record to 3-1.

Our next game is supposed to be Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Alberta Banks Park in Flowery Branch.

Baseball season is underway

Davis Falcons LogoWell, the first week of practice is already behind the C.W. Davis Falcons. As is typically the case, there were plenty of discoveries made this week as it relates to “areas for improvement”. But, that’s what practice is for. All in all, considering the cold weather and windy conditions, the team looked good.

Our season opener is next Saturday, February 28, 2009, 3:00 p.m. at Laurel Park in Gainesville. If you aren’t busy, put it on your calendar and come out and support the team.

Stephen is doing well so far. He’s been working out in Left Field for the most part and is having a lot of fun.
