The CW Davis Falcons 5 game winning streak was broken yesterday. We played the Gainesville Red Elephants. They were pretty good competition. Unfortunately, in the end, the Red Elephants came out ahead, 10-8.

In spite of the loss, there was plenty of action to talk about. Austin Jones continues to punish the baseball and went 2 for 3 at the plate yesterday with a double and single. Stephen Skeggs made 4 plate appearances and went 1 for 2 on the day with a strike out and a single. He also reached on an error and walked. Brady Dyer was also hot at the plate yesterday, going 2 for 2. Dylan Streets was the starting pitcher for the Falcons and pitched 4 1/3 innings. Brandon Benevento entered the game in relief and pitched 2/3 of an inning. Stephen Skeggs was called in during the bottom of the 6th inning with the bases loaded and nobody out. He got two quick outs on a pop-up and a 4-3. Unfortunately, the hits began after two outs, coupled with several walks and errors and that was it, game over. He did however strikeout the last batter.

All in all, Stephen did very well under the pressure of that game situation. I was also very proud of the way he handled his emotion and disappointment after taking the loss. I asked him how he felt after the game and he said he was mad and disappointed. He followed that up by saying, “but, sometimes that’s how baseball goes”. 

We play tomorrow evening, Tuesday, March 24 ,2009, at 6:30 p.m. at Laurel Park in Gainesville. Come on out if you don’t have any plans.

The CW Davis Falcons are on fire! They won today’s game by a 10 run margin, putting up spectacular offense and defense. The final score was 17-7.

If I were publishing video, the highlight reel would be huge. Brad Brown was the starting pitcher and pitched 5 strong innings. Cameron Warner and Brandon Benevento both pitched excellent in relief to close out the game. Stephen Skeggs went 2 for 4 on the day with 5 plate appearances total. He popped up to third base in his first at bat and lined out to the short stop in his second at bat. In his third at bat he hit a double over the left fielders head. In his fourth at bat he reached on an error by the Centerfielder who simply missed a perfectly catchable fly ball. In his fifth and final at bat of the day, Stephen hit a single just out of reach of the short stop.

The highlight of the day was the performance by Austin Jones at the plate. Austin went 3 for 5 today and hit a triple and two home runs. The second home run was a grand slam. Way to go Jonesy!!

All in all, it was a great day at the ballpark. We play again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Alberta Banks Park.
